The Tiffin Seneca Farmers’ Market is a Family Affair

Press release courtesy of Tiffin Seneca Farmers’ Market, A Function of Seneca County Common Ground

The Tiffin Seneca Farmers’ Market is a Family Affair!

When you support your local farmers market you are supporting an entire family.

When shopping at the Tiffin Seneca Farmers’ Market customers will see kids running around and playing with other farmers market children, some early teens are experiencing their first job, and families are working together to provide fresh produce baked goods and other items to be purchased at the market.

The Tiffin Seneca Farmers Market provides a kid friendly environment with children activities including market bingo and coloring sheets.  This week a Kona Ice truck will also be at the market for kids to enjoy.

Farmers markets allow families to spend time together, work together, and learn and grow together. Emily Wonder, owner of Put Your Name on It 2014 said, “ For most people Saturday mornings are relaxing and family time.  Although ours may not be relaxing, it is family time. We are a family of six that are vendors at the farmers market. Everyone of us has a job that we are expected to do to prepare for the market and at the market. Most people have to find sitters for kids when they go to work, we on the other hand take our kids with us. Helping them learn responsibility but more than anything  they are forming friendships with kids that are growing up with the same hard working background. Bryce (owner of Trigger’s Farm Market) and I have also made friends with other vendors. We help each other set up, tear down and loan items when someone forgets.  Half the time we see our “Market Family” more during the season than we do our actual extended family.”

The relationships between the vendors and the customers have grown more and more with every market. All of the vendors have been Ellen Bell, Owner of Baked by Bells said, “As a small business owner, I love having the opportunity to share the farmer’s market experience as a family. It gives us a scheduled time to work together as a team every week and learn to appreciate the hard work and skills of other crafters and growers in the community. We have also been so lucky to find a new market family with all the great friends we have made along the way.”

Many of the vendors at the farmers market also support each other and purchase products from one another. Annie Bowers, of Goat Milk Junction said, “The farmers market is a wonderful resource for natural, homegrown and homemade items. My family benefits from it all. With being a vendor that produces natural skin, hair care and pain relief, I have a vast clientele and repeat clients. Plus the community loves it due to the fact that it is accessible to our community and they don’t have to travel very far to get what they need. Fresh produce being one of those items, is a staple in many households like mine. So while I am a vendor at these markets I am also a customer.”

The farmers market is also a way for families to be created and do better for a common good. Leah Cordy, Owner of Hope’s Landing said, “The Tiffin Seneca Farmers Market gives us a place to sell our products directly to our community. All of our products are made by local survivors of human trafficking and domestic violence, so the ability to sell at this market puts money directly into survivor’s pockets. The market is also a great way to spend a Saturday morning with my family and friends, while in the heart of surrounding downtown businesses. There’s something for everyone!”

The Farmers Market also gives community members a way to get involved. Marilyn Seislove, Principal Calvert Elementary said, “I think the farmers market is a wonderful experience for the families in Tiffin. There is something for everyone, both old and young. This past week Calvert offered face painting and I think it was fabulous. The kids absolutely  loved it!! The expressions on their faces were priceless. The market provides local homegrown fruits and vegetables, handmade items, and a time to chat  with old friends. It is an opportunity that reminds me of days gone by. It is reminiscent of the way things used to be in small towns.”

This weekend be sure to bring your family out to the Tiffin Seneca Farmers’ Market for Kona Ice, activities, and to support the local families of Seneca County.

About Fostoria Rocks (From their Facebook page)

Fostoria Rocks is a community project to help inspire others and foster creativity in Fostoria and the surrounding area. It’s a hide-and-seek game of sorts. Grab a paintbrush, get creative, find some great hiding spots, and be on the lookout for these hidden gems!

 General Guidelines:

  • Post your pictures, stories or clues on this page, and then hide new rocks or relocate rocks you find to a different spot for someone else to find.
  • If you want to keep the rock you find, be sure you replace it with a rock that you have painted.
  • Hide all rocks outdoors (please don’t hide them indoors).
  • Use paints that will withstand weather (such as acrylic) and use a clear coat (such as mod podge or polyurethane spray) to seal it.
  • Try to add the FB group name on the back of the rock so people who find them will know where to post pics. “FB Fostoria Rocks”
  • Please don’t place rocks in places that could damage property.
  • Please don’t be hateful to each other. If anyone is having issues there are 3 administrators at this time. Message one of us. We will work the best we can to get it resolved.
  • Please only paint and place Rocks.
  • -When hiding rocks around town, please make sure you keep them out of the grass, do not place in trees, statues, fountains, monuments, or walkway’s. The workers who cut the grass don’t want to hurt anyone while mowing.
  • Please do not place Rocks in medians or close to busy intersections and roads. Kids are out looking for these rocks and we want to keep everyone safe. Please keep that in mind when you place or hide your rocks. If you have to question if its a dangerous spot to place your rock, it probably is.
  • Since kiddos will see the rocks as well as these FB posts, please no inappropriate paintings or comments. Any inappropriate posts will be deleted immediately.

Final Act Takes the Stage for the East Green Concert Series | Kid Sistr

To wrap up the East Green Concert Series, Heidelberg University and Tiffin University are excited to sponsor Kid Sistr to take the stage!  Kid Sistr will perform on Saturday September 4th, at 8pm at the Frost-Kalnow Amphitheater.

Kid Sistr is Sabel (guitarist), Sara Keden (bassist) and Rebecca Webster (drummer), an all-women, New-York-born indie trio. The band’s bright sound and colloquial writing reflect their varied influences; a Kid Sistr listener will hear the bursting bubble gum of the Top 40 charts, the palatable peculiarity of 1980s new wave, the unabashed amplitude of 2000’s alternative rock, and the meticulous construction of the singer-songwriter style. The resultant songs are rosy shards of guitar-pop ear candy, ready to be unwrapped and dissolved.

Kid Sistr’s debut EP is a self-titled, six-track project. The first single, ‘Little Sister Song’, is a spirited, rock-and-roll dedication to snarky younger siblings and rom-com teenager-dom. Although lighthearted in sound and verse, ‘Little Sister Song’ carries substantial sentiment for the band members. Sabel, Keden and Webster are all eldest children in sister-only families. This uniting fact not only provides the inspiration for the group’s name, but also heavily informs Kid Sistr’s creative identity. The shared experience of sisterhood motivates Kid Sistr to represent the interests and realities of young women. Each track on the EP is a piece of a pooled consciousness between sisters. Together, the six songs on Kid Sistr make an equally humorous and emotive portrait of womanhood. Kid Sistr demonstrates the trio’s willingness to become shiny, strange, silly, or soft in order to tell profound stories of ambition, heartbreak, femininity, sexuality and friendship. The EP is out now on all streaming platforms.
