Attica’s Autumn Village Day

Press release courtesy of the Attica Events Committee.

If you don’t have plans for Saturday, September 30th, The Attica Event Committee invites you to attend the FIRST Attica Autumn Day from 10 am – 4 pm. In late July, a few of us decided that we wanted to make Attica the hometown we can all be proud of, and to bring the feeling of community back to the village, we created Attica Autumn Day. Working with the Attica Sons of the Legion, who will be hosting their Second Annual Car and Truck Show at the Attica Fairgrounds, there will surely be something for everyone.

The Vendor Fair, located in downtown Attica, will have several vendors with a variety of items that we are sure will be perfect no matter what you’re looking for. The Seneca East Public Library will host kids’ games and crafts and sell fresh baked bread and books. Food trucks will be set up throughout the event to get something tasty to eat, as well as Smitty’s Pizza.

The Sons of the Legion will be providing shuttles to and from the Fairgrounds to downtown Attica from 12 – 4 pm so that everyone can take part in the Car and Truck Show and visit Attica’s Veterans Memorial as well as the Vendor Fair. There will also be additional food trucks at the Fairgrounds to ensure no one goes home hungry.

As the event closes, we are excited to provide an opportunity for everyone to come together for the First Community Square Dance from 3 – 6 pm. The event will be held Downtown by the Village Offices. During the square dance, there will be fellowship, music, laughs, and maybe even some great and unexpected dance moves.

The Attica Community Church is sponsoring Smitty’s Ice Cream Cart for FREE ice cream for those who attend.

We are excited about our first event and are thrilled that our community is coming together to do great things.

So please join us on this fabulous fall day, take in the fall decorations, do some shopping, stop at our photo area for the perfect fall photo, cruise through the car and truck show, spend some time at the Veterans Memorial, and admire the amazing work honoring those we have lost fighting for our freedom, and end the night with squaring dancing and ice cream.

It will for sure be the PERFECT Autumn Day!

Please feel free to visit our Facebook Page, Attica Events Committee, to get more information about our Vendors and what they will have to offer. We hope to see you there!

Downtown Tiffin is gearing up to host its annual Downtown Trick or Treat – Third Thursday on October 19th starting at 4:30 pm. Participating Downtown merchants will be passing out candy and treats to young trick-or-treaters. Costumes are not only welcomed but encouraged.

One exciting addition to this year’s celebration is “The Great Pumpkin Drop,” which will be conducted by the Tiffin Fire/Rescue Division at 6:30 pm in City Lot 6. Fire Chief Chappell expresses his enthusiasm, saying, “The Tiffin Fire/Rescue Division is excited to be a part of the first-ever Pumpkin Drop Downtown Tiffin event! Watching the annual Downtown Trick or Treat grow each year, we wanted to do something to make it even better. Dropping pumpkins from up to 100 feet above the ground seemed like an exciting way to conclude the afternoon’s events. We look forward to seeing a great turnout!”

Students from Vanguard-Sentinel Career and Technology Centers-Sentinel campus will pre-decorate 12 pumpkins to be dropped. During the 3rd Thursday event, the pumpkins will be on display in City Lot 6 where the community will have an opportunity to donate/sponsor each pumpkin. Commissioners Unveil Bicentennial Logo and Approve Funds for Celebrations in 2024

Press release courtesy of Seneca County Commissioners.

The Seneca County Commissioners, in collaboration with the Seneca County Bicentennial Committee, were thrilled to announce the unveiling of the official Bicentennial logo during Thursday morning’s board session. The logo, featuring an hourglass, symbolizes the theme “standing the test of time,” reflecting the community’s enduring spirit and love for Seneca County.

Seneca County, officially organized on April 1, 1824, is approaching its historic 200th birthday, and the Bicentennial Committee has been diligently planning events to commemorate this significant milestone. Members of the committee, including Seneca County Museum Director Theresa Sullivan and Marisa Stephens from Destination Seneca County, were inspired by the hourglass symbol being used in ads of local businesses in newspapers during the sesquicentennial and decided to incorporate this into the Bicentennial logo.

“We want all of Seneca County to come together to celebrate and promote our community during this momentous occasion,” said Theresa Sullivan, Director of the Seneca County Museum. “The Bicentennial presents an excellent opportunity to collaborate and combine events with people and organizations from across the county.”

The Bicentennial Committee envisions hosting village festivals and events throughout the county as perfect opportunities to celebrate the community’s 200th anniversary. An exciting lineup of events is being planned, including a kickoff event on April 1st, 2024, at the Seneca County Justice Center, featuring distinguished speakers and proclamations from local governments.

To support the celebrations, the commissioners allocated $10,000 in funding Thursday morning. These funds will be used for marketing, supplies and events. Additionally, a special fund will be created to assist villages, townships, businesses and other organizations in making their events Bicentennial themed. Those interested in applying for funding can find more information through the application available at Destination Seneca County.

“We encourage all our citizens to join in and add a Bicentennial flair to their traditional events next year,” said Marisa Stephens of Destination Seneca County. “We want to create a sense of community for everyone and celebrate our shared history.”

A driving tour is also being organized, showcasing historically significant sites across the county. Dr. Roy Zinn, a member of the Bicentennial Committee, revealed details of the “Historic Secrets of Seneca County Driving Tour,” allowing community members to visit sites in each of the county’s 15 townships and learn more about the county’s rich history.

Additionally, the Tiffin Community Foundation plans to offer grant funding opportunities to community organizations and local governments seeking support for their Bicentennial-themed events.

In addition to the county’s Bicentennial celebrations, Destination Seneca County officials are preparing for the rare total solar eclipse that will grace the region on April 8th, 2024. Seneca County will be in the path of totality, with the centerline passing directly over Bloomville. The last total solar eclipse visible in Ohio was in 1806. This once-in-a-lifetime event presents a unique and spectacular opportunity for residents and visitors alike to witness the awe-inspiring phenomenon.

History Comes Alive at The Civil War Museum of Ohio

Step back in time at the Civil War Museum of Ohio. From the life-sized cannons out front to the welcoming staff as you walk through the doors, watch history come to life. The Tiffin Civil War museum is a volunteer-run museum located in Downtown Tiffin that is excited to share with you the facts and stories of the Civil War. Originally built in 1915 as a local post office, the Tiffin Civil War museum has served the community of Tiffin with a unique Civil War educational experience for over 10 years.

The American Civil War Museum of Ohio is a non-profit organization that strives to collect, preserve, and interpret the American Civil War and its impact on the current American society. The museum allows you to fully understand and experience the story of our nation’s greatest conflict. Inside, the museum offers eight exhibit rooms with hands-on exhibits for adults and children that are designed to enhance your experience and knowledge of the Civil War and Ohio’s role in it.

Each exhibit within the museum features a different aspect of the war, starting with “The Road to War”, and ending with “The War ends.” Other exhibits featured are The War Begins, Life of a Soldier, The First Modern War, Medicine, and Life at Home. Each exhibit room features readings, artifacts, and activities to help put you into the history itself. Along with the exhibit rooms, the museum provides visitors with an opportunity to visit the library, which holds hundreds of civil war themed books, as well as a theater room that displays a 20-minute documentary, “Ohio’s Role in the Civil War,” produced by the American Civil War Museum of Ohio.

The museum would not be possible without the support of the community, as well as the countless volunteers who work hard to bring the most memorable experience to its visitors. These volunteers work very hard to bring a smile to each of the faces that walk through their doors, and hope to build connections and memories that will last a lifetime. While the museum is typically self-guided, accommodations for group tours can be made on their website.

History will come alive at the Civil War Museum of Ohio. Come explore everything it has to offer and leave with a better understanding of this monumental event in our nation’s history and a greater appreciation for our beloved state of Ohio for the part it played. For more information about the museum, you can visit their website at: ACWMO.com.
