Left to Our Own Devices

By Dale Dunn & Lynn Goodwin

A multicultural ensemble takes on characters who dive headlong into their experiences of trying to stay personally connected in the digital age. Struggling with the internet’s addictive qualities, the characters seek real connection. They speak honestly about their experiences of being bullied, cut off from one-on-one communication, pressured by peers, unseen and unheard, and navigating the razor’s edge of suicide. Actors take on many characters to create a cacophony of viewpoints: an internet influencer, a gender fluid go-getter, a mother and son who desperately want to be seen, the popular students with a tendency to bully, and the misfits who strive to be understood. These unique voices create a dynamic theatrical whirlwind that is full of humor and insight.

In The Tank (A One-Act Comedy)

By Rosemary Frinsino Toohey

What's it like to be peered at by hungry humans? Studied like a microbe under a glass? Chosen to be someone's dinner entree? Such is the predicament of two lobsters who find themselves in the tank of a seafood restaurant. One is a crustacean who's been around the tank a few times and has cleverly devised a "dead" act. Frozen in position, starry-eyed, claws rigidly akimbo, the "dead" pose is meant to ward off hungry diners and send them scurrying off to order other dishes. The other lobster is more philosophical. The lobsters consider the idea that humans are actually afraid of them. Maybe that's why people keep them bound up in rubber bands. So what's going to happen to the two priciest items on the menu?

About RTTG

RTTG originated in 2004 (called the Tiffin Area High School Players) as a group of Columbian students who were disheartened when budget cuts cancelled the annual fall play. Until 2007, the all-student group rehearsed and performed at Heidelberg University's Gundlach Theatre. The teen's commitment and passion for theatre led Michael Strong, Executive Director of The Ritz Theatre, to invite them to join the Ritz Players and trideaDANCE as resident artists. The group chose the new name, Ritz Teen Thespian Guild, and hit the main stage performing Shakespeare's A Midsummer's Night Dream (21st Century pop culture version!) Since that time, RTTG has presented George Orwell's 1984 (The Play), Shakespeare in Shorts, The Crucible, Auntie Mame, Our Town, Rebel Without a Cause, The Outsiders, Anon(ymous), Wind in the Willows and Greek Stories. RTTG is run entirely by the students with their own executive committee. The group is open to all area students in grades 8-12 who have an interest in theatre.
